Tis the season when many of us are thinking spring cleaning. For our homes and some of us our bodies. Ive been getting a lot of questions about how we made a shift so I thought I would share with you!
It takes work and commitment to CHANGE! If you do not want to see a change, you simply wont. Especially if you do not commit to making changes –> Lifestyle Changes!
We are learning every single day of ways to improve our living, eating, sleeping, well-being etc. Its not a one size fits all nor one magic pill. Life is filled with ups and downs, bumps and turns where you have to learn to adjust and alter your route at times.
Cooking and cleaning in our home now, is completely different than it was 5 years ago. We are all learning how to consciously cook and clean – with the mama’s lead and direction.
There was a commercial on TV the other night and honestly I wasn’t paying attention until my husband began making fun of it saying ‘oh yes if you say I need this then obviously I need this…’ It was about a man having fungus on his toe and the commercial saying “the ONLY option is you need to get a prescription…”. This is the world we live in where the majority of people believe what is broadcast on TV to be gospel. Now I am not a religious person, I am however a spiritual believer in God. I choose to have my beliefs based on my opinion. Much like how we live in our home now. If I listened to everything that was MARKETED to us that we need this and there is no other way… my health would still very much be in jeopardy!
Consciously cooking and cleaning is being fully aware of what you are putting in your mouth, in your home and on your body. Im not talking about being all scientific about things either. Im talking about doing the research to actually KNOW what you are using in your home simply by looking at the ingredients. Trusting your gut and nose. I am now extremely sensitive to the smell of chemicals and fake things.
I know that living with PCOS – which affects 1 in every 10 women – there are foods, chemicals, toxins that negatively impact my body and life. This is the same for living an ADHD life. My health has also been impacted by Endometriosis and Hypothyroidism. PCOS, Hypothyroidism and Endometriosis are endocrine illnesses. The common factor is ENDOCRINE DISRUPTORS. Once I learned what this is, I began cleaning house – literally!
Ladies (and men) its OK to say NO to something that you have always used or eaten. Its ok to change the way you do things – you do not have to explain to anyone! Men… you need to take notice as well because your “boys” are also affected by endocrine disruptors! Especially key if you are trying to conceive.
Consciously cooking and cleaning is choosing to put your health first. Ive heard many people complain about how expensive it is… Do you realize how expensive illness is? Many people do not until its too late.
Did you know that our gut health is directly tied to our mental health and wellness! It totally is.
You can choose to make changes now. Our bodies need water, sleep and healthy nutrition. They do not need chemicals and toxins. You do not need chemicals and toxins to clean your home. I can say this because Im living it. We have not used a chemical cleaner in our home in over 3 years – and actually it may even be longer. There is a time for prescription medications – but not every time. Super bugs are building up resistance to antibiotics – these chemicals and toxins many people use i their daily life are assisting with this.
A mentor gave a great example in a recent presentation about health and wellness, she shared a commercial about how if you have zantac you can eat or drink whatever you want because it will “deal” with the indigestion you get… Much like many over the counter medications and many prescriptions that actually only deal with the symptoms and not the actual root cause of the problem – which in this case is WHY and WHAT are you eating that you are experiencing these issues?
The other issue is in our daily life we simply are not getting the vitamins, minerals and omega’s that our body requires to operate in a healthy way. Trust me I used to think that I didn’t need vitamins or that taking 1 great big horse pill and then peeing out bright yellow pee was sufficient to say I was “being healthy”… Its not!
Consciously cooking and cleaning is choosing to take control of YOUR life. Choosing to be aware of what you are eating and using. If you want to see changes in your life, you need to choose to make the changes required otherwise you will continue going around and around on the merry go round not getting anywhere.
Do the research. Don’t just take my word or your aunts, mom, grama, or especially the TV. Do the work yourself. Decide what YOU want and perhaps need to see happen in your life. Then get to work. My monthly wellness box that arrives every month from doTERRA is worth every single dollar. Its built into our budget. The money I used to spend at the grocery store or pharmacy on shampoo, conditioner, lotion, hair gel, cold and flu products, headache products, muscle rub, all purpose cleaner, window cleaner, dish soap, dishwasher detergent, digestive upset, pain medication… I moved this over to choosing to buy clean. Choosing to invest in myself and my family. Am I saying you can only be healthy by using doTERRA, nope as I said above you need to do the research yourself. I personally have found great success and results by using plant based essential oils which are the highest quality in the world and clean products infused with oils. The quality and ingredients matter.
Last night we had home made pizza for dinner. It was SO good! I personally do not use white flour, bread, sugar so I adapt any all purpose flour and white sugar recipes for whole wheat and honey. Why!? Because this is what is healthy for not just my body, but also for my family. Does everyone understand our reasoning, nope! Do I care, nope! I also make our own dish soap with liquid castile soap and our On Guard Cleaning Concentrate. It suds up as the sink is filling and then the suds disappear. Its still very effective. The only challenge Ive had is if something is really greasy I will add soap directly onto the item and then clean 🙂
Consciously adapting your life to choosing health. Choosing healthy living over convenience and cost. However, as we have chosen to purchase our healthy products from doTERRA, when I place our order every month (which is whatever I want it to be) we can earn free products as well as points. I am currently earning 30% back on everything I purchase. So for example every month I purchase our supplements, for myself and the kids, my hubby is still adjusting his lifestyle and thats ok! Most times our points we earn are used on oils which we use every single day in our home to support our health, cleanse the air and they smell amazing 😉
However, don’t just take my word for it. Sit down and think about your life and health.
- How do you feel?
- How well do you sleep?
- Do you have any health issues?
- Do your kids have any health issues?
- Are you or anyone in your family over weight?
- Do you have headaches?
- Do you drink enough water?
- What are your meals like?
Part of consciously cooking and cleaning is also being aware that as humans in this “busy” world we live in – we NEED downtime. I don’t care who you are, for our mental health stability everyone needs their own space, whatever that may be, and honor themselves that they need to rest and relax their brain. Some ways I love to do this is meditation and reading. Reading is one thing I lost and have found again to enjoy.
