Canon 5D Mark III Low Light Test

Last night I did some low light shots with my new Canon 5D Mark III.

One is indoors of my dog with his blankie on our couch, the only light in the room was 2 lamps, one on either end of the couch. The other was the planter on our front porch, the only lights being 2 pot lights in the soffit above. I am blown away at the capabilities of this camera. The shot of my dog is indoors at ISO 4000… AMAZING! I could have even cranked it up higher to get a faster shutter speed.

Nothing was done to these images, they are SOOC. No nose reduction, no exposure adjustments, this is exactly out of the camera. Had I bumped my ISO in the photo of my dog the lighting would be better.

The focus is amazing on this camera even in low light, even at f1.2 for both photos the camera grabbed that focus and held it. As a natural light photographer I am no longer worried about upping my ISO to use available light, I now embrace those ISO settings and its not even phasing me! What a fabulous option! I am so very glad that when I ventured into full frame I chose to go with the 5D classic as my stepping stone rather than the 5DMII… this beautiful camera was well worth the wait!

I have yet to try the video option on this camera. I may venture into that this weekend and will share how that works out. For me I am more interested in stills photography, however having the option to switch between stills and video seamlessly with just the flip of a switch – I am excited! Very much new learning curve!

For anyone who is considering making this investment – yes it is very much an investment – it is very well worth it! I am SO glad I took the plunge and bought it. What is even better is that we got the Henry’s 3 Year HELP Warranty with it – what is so fabulous about this is the 3 year warranty begins AFTER Canon’s 1 year manufacturer warranty!!! So essentially with this warranty I am now covered for a full 4 years 🙂 By that time the next model would be released lol 😉 – however I am over joyed at this camera I now have.

Still feeling SO very blessed!

    1. Yes I have, it has to do with the top lcd in very low light, I haven’t tested mine yet, apparently it can throw off the exposure readings. I dont always – no I rarely use the meter in camera other than if I first setting up a shot, even then its rare I tend to set and make my adjustments as I shoot. I will have to do a test and see though…

Thank you!!! 🙂 I am loving it!!!

      1. It’s the same as the iPhone antenna – you’d think you’d they’d cover all the bases right? lol. That’s good that it doesn’t impact your shooting. Hopefully they can find a way around it. When you look forward to a purchase like that, you want to enjoy it!!
